Kano Police Charge 19-Year-Old Female Gang Leader and Her Associates

The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 19-year-old Shamsiyya Adamu, a female gang leader, along with four of her associates on charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft.

The suspects were arrested on December 21, 2024, following a series of reports about stolen phones in the Unguwa Uku Quarters of Kano. A total of 30 individuals—29 females and one male—filed complaints against Shamsiyya, who admitted to stealing their mobile phones on various occasions throughout 2024.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Police Spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arraignment and revealed that four additional suspects had been arrested and 12 stolen mobile phones had been recovered.

“The Kano State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, particularly with the arrest and arraignment of a female-led syndicate of thieves,” the statement read.

Shamsiyya Adamu and her accomplices were brought before Chief Magistrates Court Number 18 in Gyadi Gyadi, Kano, where they face charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft. Four additional suspects—Fati Auwal, Kamal Sale, Usman Nasir, and Bashir Ibrahim—were arrested for theft and receiving stolen goods. In total, 12 stolen mobile phones were recovered, and investigations are ongoing.

As of now, 86 individuals have lodged complaints against the gang, highlighting the extensive nature of their criminal activities.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the efforts of the police force and urged continued recovery of stolen phones. He also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the law-abiding citizens of the state, emphasizing that this initiative is part of the police command’s broader commitment to maintaining safety and security.
