Operatives of the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected fake clergyman, Kehinde Makinde, popularly known as “Pastor Kenny,” for allegedly defrauding members of the public under the guise of conducting spiritual deliverance.
Makinde was arrested on Monday, August 3, 2026, at about 4:45 p.m. in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a four-month intelligence-led investigation.
The suspect is accused of operating across Ogun, Osun and Oyo states, allegedly exploiting unsuspecting individuals by posing as a pastor and offering fraudulent spiritual services.
Police investigations revealed that Makinde allegedly collected about N2.5 million from 18 fellowship members in Saje, Adatan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He reportedly convinced the victims that he could arrange a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem and allegedly promised each participant N2 million.
The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi said detectives attached to the Obantoko Division arrested Makinde after sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigations into allegations of fraud linked to his activities.
He said preliminary findings indicated that the suspect had allegedly manipulated unsuspecting victims under the guise of providing spiritual deliverance and other religious services.
“The arrest followed investigations into allegations that the suspect fraudulently manipulated unsuspecting victims under the guise of spiritual deliverance across Ogun, Oyo and Osun States,” Babaseyi said.
The police spokesperson added that investigations were ongoing to identify other possible victims and track down anyone suspected of working with Makinde.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
