The management of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has dismissed a locum radiographer following the death of a patient at the facility.

Reports indicate that the radiographer was let go due to negligence of duty. A source revealed to Newsmen on Wednesday in Calabar that the worker was fired for failing to provide the key to the emergency X-ray room.

According to the source, the patient was brought into the hospital late at night and was immediately attended to by the emergency team. After their assessment, the team called on the radiographer to examine the patient’s lungs in the emergency X-ray room. However, the radiographer was unable to locate the key to the room. Despite hours of waiting, the patient slipped into a coma and later passed away. The dismissed radiographer reportedly could not offer an explanation for the missing key.

Following the death, the hospital management issued a termination letter on January 22, though the letter did not specify the reasons for the decision. The letter simply stated: “This is to inform you that your services in the UCTH as a radiographer are no longer required. Consequently, your appointment is hereby terminated with immediate effect.”
