Two people have died following an explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Saturday, September 20.
The blast, which occurred around 10 a.m., also left four others injured. The powerful explosion was reportedly felt across several communities in Kaduna South and Chikun Local Government Areas.
The injured victims were initially taken to St. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital in Kakuri for emergency treatment before being transferred by military ambulance to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
As of the time of this report, DICON management has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
Established in 1964, DICON is Nigeria’s foremost arms manufacturing facility, responsible for producing weapons and ammunition for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
