The Super Eagles of Nigeria claimed the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in the third-place playoff.

The encounter in Casablanca was a tightly fought contest, with both teams cancelling each other out over 90 minutes. Clear-cut chances were scarce, although Nigeria pushed forward with greater intent in the second half and went close on a few occasions. Egypt’s defence, however, remained resolute, forcing the match to be decided by a penalty shootout.

From the spot, Nigeria proved more composed, converting four of their penalties while Egypt faltered with two misses. Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero, producing two crucial saves in the shootout — including one to deny Egyptian talisman Mohamed Salah.

Ademola Lookman calmly dispatched the winning penalty to seal the victory, earning Nigeria their ninth third-place finish in AFCON history.
