Thief Caught Wearing Stolen Jacket

A 28-year-old man from Highwood Phase 2 in Concession has been convicted of unlawful entry after he was caught wearing a jacket stolen from his victim.

Marlvin Chakanyuka stole the jacket along with several other items in August 2025 before being recognised by the 46-year-old complainant.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Chakanyuka entered the victim’s room while he was away and made off with a stonewash jean jacket, a pair of jean trousers, sneakers, a red-and-black Bluetooth speaker, and a blue-and-white blanket, all valued at USD85. On August 25, 2025, at around 1:00 p.m., the victim spotted Chakanyuka walking through the neighbourhood wearing the stolen jacket. When confronted, Chakanyuka fled the scene before authorities could be notified.

He was later arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 24 months in prison. Seven months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, one month was suspended on condition that he pays restitution of USD85 to the complainant, and the remaining 16 months were suspended on condition that he completes 560 hours of community service.
