
Nigeria’s table tennis star, Quadri Aruna, advanced to the quarter-finals of the ITTF Africa Cup Championship in Benghazi, Libya, after a commanding 4–0 win over host nation player Alajaebi Habeb in Sunday’s men’s singles round of 16 encounter on February 8.
The Nigerian number one was in complete control throughout the match, cruising to victory in straight games of 11–3, 11–4, 11–3 and 11–1 to showcase his quality and vast experience on the continental stage.
The emphatic performance keeps the former ITTF world top-10 player firmly in the title race as the championship enters its decisive phase.
In another round of 16 clash, Algeria’s Stephanie Ouaiche recorded a 4–0 victory over Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo. Ouaiche dominated proceedings to seal the match with scores of 11–6, 11–2, 11–4 and 11–8, despite a spirited showing from Omotayo, particularly in the fourth game.
Elsewhere, Egypt’s Omar Assar comfortably dispatched Morocco’s Banchat Marius 4–0 (11–6, 11–2, 11–6, 11–6), while Tunisia’s Wassim Essid edged past Benin’s Salifou Abdel-Kader 4–2 to also secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
