Liverpool FC have strongly condemned racist abuse aimed at defender Ibrahima Konaté following their Champions League victory over Galatasaray.

Konaté was targeted on social media after an early challenge involving Victor Osimhen, who later sustained a fractured forearm during the match at Anfield. The incident triggered a wave of online backlash, prompting Liverpool to say they were “appalled and disgusted,” describing the abuse as “dehumanising, cowardly and rooted in hate.” The club stressed that racism has no place in football or society and insisted that players must be respected as human beings, not treated as targets.

Liverpool confirmed they are providing full support to Konaté and are working with authorities to identify those responsible.

The Premier League also condemned the abuse, reiterating that discrimination has no place in the sport and warning that perpetrators could face bans and legal action. The league added that stronger measures are needed, including closer cooperation between clubs, law enforcement, and social media platforms.

On the pitch, Liverpool secured a 4–0 win on the night and advanced 4–1 on aggregate, setting up a quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The club further urged social media companies to take greater responsibility, arguing that while the tools exist to curb such abuse, they are often not effectively used. Liverpool warned that allowing racist content to spread unchecked represents a failure that harms players, their families, and wider communities.

The episode adds to a growing number of cases involving online abuse of footballers, increasing pressure on authorities to take firmer action against offenders.
