Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have launched an investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested by EFCC operatives on Monday, April 20, 2026.
According to a statement by the agency, the case originated from a petition he submitted on September 22, 2025, on behalf of clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigations revealed that both the petition and a subsequent withdrawal letter dated March 5, 2026, carried a forged Nigerian Bar Association seal. Anoruo reportedly admitted obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
During questioning, the 55-year-old claimed he earned a Law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School.
The EFCC stated that he will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
