A Nigerian national held as an undertrial inmate in an Indian prison has died after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The 66-year-old, identified simply as Solomon, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Greater Noida.
Jail authorities said he had long battled chronic health conditions, including high blood pressure and severe kidney disease.
On Friday morning around 10 a.m., Solomon reportedly developed breathing difficulties inside the prison and went into cardiac arrest. He was immediately rushed to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital for emergency care, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Police officials stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the completion of mandatory legal procedures.
Solomon had been in judicial custody since May 31, 2023, under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and was being held at the Gautam Budh Nagar District Jail in Luksar village.

Following his death, hospital authorities notified the Ecotech-I police station. Officials added that his family and the intelligence department have been informed, and further legal processes are underway.
Prison authorities noted that Solomon had been receiving treatment at hospitals in Delhi and Meerut prior to his death, and his condition had remained critical for some time.
He was among 10 foreign nationals arrested on May 17, 2023, during an anti-narcotics operation by Greater Noida Police. Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected traffickers. Subsequent investigations led to a raid on a house in the Theta sector, where police uncovered an alleged drug manufacturing operation.
During the raid, authorities arrested the suspects and seized a large quantity of narcotics, including cocaine and about 46 kilograms of MDMA, along with chemicals and equipment used in producing synthetic drugs.
A case was later filed at the Beta-II police station under multiple provisions of the NDPS Act and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.
