Following a wave of attacks in Jos, Kaduna, and Benue states over the weekend, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action instead of making what he described as empty promises.

In a statement issued on April 6, Atiku referenced Tinubu’s remarks during a meeting with grieving families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos, Plateau State. The meeting was held at Yakubu Gowon Airport, where the President had assured victims that such an incident would not happen again.

Atiku noted that less than 48 hours after that promise, fresh killings were reported in Plateau, spreading to Kaduna State, Katsina State, Benue State, and Nasarawa State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain called on the President to “roll up his sleeves and get to work.”

“I wish to remind President Bola Tinubu to keep to his words that ‘this will not repeat itself.’ It appears those words are hollow because barely 72 hours later, another attack in Benue State claimed over a dozen lives. The Commander-in-Chief must rise to the challenges of governance.

“I am also deeply concerned, like many Nigerians, about reports from a community in Nasarawa where families have fled on foot amid threats of attack.

“And as if that were not enough, there was yet another attack in Kaduna State over the weekend.

“The primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property, as well as the welfare of citizens. Enough of this hollow rhetoric, Mr. President. It is time to roll up your sleeves and get to work,” he said.
