The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested a 32-year-old man, Adetokunbo Adeshina, for allegedly threatening and extorting members of the public through phone calls.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASC I Ayoola Michael Shola, announced the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026.

According to Shola, the suspect was apprehended following several complaints from victims who alleged that he repeatedly called them to demand money while threatening to attack them if they failed to comply.

The spokesperson said the latest complaint involved a victim, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, from whom the suspect allegedly demanded N500,000. He reportedly threatened to unleash violence on the victim, his family and his business if the demand was not met.

Shola said NSCDC operatives launched an intelligence-led investigation based on the complaints, leading to the suspect’s arrest in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adeshina allegedly obtained his victims’ telephone numbers through Facebook before contacting them with repeated threats aimed at intimidating them into making payments.

During a search carried out after his arrest, operatives recovered eight registered SIM cards from different telecommunications networks, which investigators believe were used to carry out the alleged extortion.

The suspect remains in NSCDC custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal operation. The Command said he will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
