“Being born again doesn’t erase childhood trauma or behavioral dysfunction” — Comedian Funnybone tells the Church, encourages therapy.

Nigerian comedian Funnybone has said that becoming “born again” does not automatically heal childhood trauma or personality disorders, stressing the importance of addressing mental and emotional health alongside spiritual growth.

The entertainer, who is a Catholic, shared his views in a post on Instagram, urging religious institutions to acknowledge that spiritual conversion alone is not a cure for deep-rooted behavioural and psychological challenges.

According to Funnybone, many young Christians continue to struggle with unresolved emotional wounds, which often manifest in unhealthy or toxic behaviour.

“Some of the meanest people I have encountered in life are Christians,” he wrote, suggesting that many people fail to confront the effects of past trauma.

The comedian also advocated greater awareness of mental health within religious communities, encouraging believers to seek professional therapy instead of relying solely on spiritual practices to address long-standing emotional issues.

“Therapy, religion, and spirituality can co-exist,” he wrote.
