Suspected bandits have kidnapped a traditional ruler, his wife, and another resident following a midnight attack on Olayinka community in the Agunjin District of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The assailants reportedly invaded the palace of Oba Salman Aweda at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026. They fired sporadically to instill fear among residents before abducting the monarch and two others to an unknown location.

A local source confirmed the incident, noting that the monarch is among the recently elevated traditional rulers.

Reacting to the attack, the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Abdulrasheed Yusuf, assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ safe release.

“We are deeply concerned about this incident and are taking swift and decisive action in collaboration with security agencies,” Yusuf said during a visit to the community on Saturday.

He disclosed that a joint search-and-rescue operation involving security personnel, forest guards, and local vigilantes has been launched across nearby forests and surrounding communities.

“The operation is aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted monarch,” he added.

Yusuf also urged residents to remain calm and support authorities with credible information to aid ongoing operations.

“Community cooperation remains critical in addressing security challenges and restoring peace,” he said.
