The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revised its official records, reinstating Senator David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
A review of INEC’s website shows the updated ADC leadership, listing Mark as chairman and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary.
Other reinstated officials include Dr. Mani Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
Their names had been removed from the commission’s portal in April following a Court of Appeal directive, a decision that triggered protests from the Mark-led faction and opposition figures.
However, the Supreme Court on Thursday nullified the Court of Appeal’s order, ruling that the directive to maintain the status quo ante bellum could not stand after the relevant proceedings had been concluded. The court described the continuation of that order as unnecessary and legally unsound.
The apex court also upheld the appeal filed by the Mark-led faction and directed that the substantive suit instituted by aggrieved party member Nafiu Bala Gombe at the Federal High Court be heard promptly on its merits.
