President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 CAF Awards.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the president also endorsed Nigeria’s proposal to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly later this year.
The approvals were announced at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi following a meeting between Tinubu and Patrice Motsepe. Other officials present included Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Samson Adamu, Ibrahim Gusau, and Amaju Pinnick.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for October, is expected to bring together presidents of all 54 CAF member associations, representatives of zonal unions, and top football administrators across the continent. The CAF Awards remains one of African football’s most prestigious events, recognizing outstanding players, coaches, and stakeholders annually.
Nigeria last hosted the awards ceremony in January 2017, when Riyad Mahrez won the men’s Player of the Year award and Asisat Oshoala claimed the women’s prize.
CAF is expected to announce the final host cities for both events in the coming months.
