A Nigerian man, Paul Kavwam, rescued a baby boy who was found abandoned in a bush along a hiking trail in Plateau State.

Kavwam shared the incident in a Facebook post, explaining that he and members of his hiking group discovered the infant on Saturday, May 16, 2026, while returning from a hike. According to him, they heard the cries of a baby and traced the sound to a child wrapped in a towel and left in the bush.

After questioning women nearby who were gathering firewood and confirming that the baby did not belong to any of them, the group took the child to the Angwa Rukuba Police Station in Jos North.

They were later directed to the Nasarawa Police Station, where the baby was handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for transfer to the appropriate child welfare authorities.

“Today we were out on a hike, and on our way back, we heard the cry of a baby wrapped and kept in the bush,” Kavwam wrote.

“We called some women who were fetching firewood in the area, but they said the baby was not theirs.

“I then carried the baby, and we took him to Angwa Rukuba Police Station. We were later transferred to Nasarawa Police Station, where we handed the baby over to the DPO for onward transfer to the department where the child will be properly cared for.”

Kavwam expressed sadness over the incident, saying it was heartbreaking that such abandonment could still happen at a time when many people are praying for children.

“It’s really sad that people can still do this in this generation where many are looking for the fruit of the womb. May God have mercy on us all,” he added.
