The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of a planned bandit attack on schools in the state, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence suggesting any imminent security threat.
The reassurance comes amid widespread concern triggered by a notice allegedly pasted on a school wall, warning of planned attacks and the abduction of pupils by bandits.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged parents, guardians, school administrators, and residents to remain calm, stressing that the command takes all security-related concerns seriously.
“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.
The police commissioner disclosed that he had ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of comprehensive security measures in the affected area and other strategic locations across the state.
According to the command, police officers have been deployed in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen security around schools, safeguard critical infrastructure, and ensure the safety of communities.
CP Fatai warned that the command would not tolerate any attempt by criminals, including bandits, kidnappers, or other miscreants, to disrupt public peace or create fear among residents.
“The command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Any individual or group found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he stated.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the police and members of the public. Residents are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious persons, objects, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines,” the statement added.
