Nine people were injured in a shooting near the training base England is expected to use during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Kansas City.

The incident occurred just a few miles from the facilities where manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad is scheduled to train and stay during the tournament.

Although the England team has not yet arrived in Kansas City, the location and timing of the shooting are likely to heighten concerns as preparations for the World Cup gather pace. Security arrangements across host cities have already come under increased scrutiny ahead of the competition.

According to The Athletic, officers from the Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire on Troost Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they found a large crowd dispersing from the area.

Three adult women with gunshot wounds were initially located at the scene and transported to local hospitals. Authorities later learned that additional victims had arrived at hospitals in private vehicles.

Police confirmed that a total of nine adults were shot. Fortunately, all injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The shooting took place roughly four miles from the base England is expected to use during the World Cup. The Three Lions are scheduled to train at Swope Soccer Village and stay at nearby accommodation during their time in Kansas City.
