Lightning k!lls 14-year-old student in Niger State community

A 14-year-old student of Police Secondary School, Minna, Yahaya Ibrahim Tafida, has reportedly lost his life after being struck by lightning in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to a resident, Mohammed Musa, the incident occurred at about 6 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, while the teenager and his friends were playing football at the Government Girls’ Day Secondary School field in Lapai.

Musa explained that the boys sought refuge under a tree when rainfall accompanied by a strong windstorm began.

“When the rain and windstorm started, they could not return home, so they took shelter under a tree. Suddenly, lightning struck, and the boy died instantly,” he said.

The tragic incident has left residents of the community in shock and mourning, with many expressing sadness over the untimely death of the young student.
