Former AEW star Andy Williams, popularly known as “The Butcher,” has tragically died after collapsing during a wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
Williams, 48, who previously wrestled for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Ring of Honor, passed away on September 5 following health complications at Mr. Small’s Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania, according to reports by TMZ.
The wrestler reportedly collapsed during the main event of Saturday night’s show. Medical personnel immediately attended to him, performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) before he was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital.
Witnesses said Williams’ legs suddenly buckled toward the end of the match, causing him to fall to the floor. His partner, The Blade, reportedly called for assistance and tried to help him up, but Williams collapsed again and lost consciousness.
Eyewitness Rich Fann described the incident, saying Williams appeared to be in serious distress as the match neared its conclusion.
According to Fann, members of the wrestling crew, paramedics and fans quickly worked together to clear a path and provide emergency assistance, including chest compressions and the use of an AED, before Williams was taken to hospital.
Following the incident, Enjoy Wrestling released a statement confirming that Williams had collapsed at the end of his match.
“Andy collapsed at the end of his match this evening. Our doctors on staff tended to him immediately, administering CPR until the ambulance arrived. We sent everyone home and are at the hospital now waiting for more information. Thanks to everyone who helped and has reached out,” the promotion said.
News of Williams’ death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and members of the wrestling community.
Beyond wrestling, Williams was also a founding guitarist of the American metalcore band Every Time I Die, which he co-founded and remained part of until the group disbanded in 2021 following its final performance.
Following his death, Enjoy Wrestling paid tribute to the former wrestler and musician with a brief but emotional message: “Butcher Forever.”
