The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has arrested eight people in Kazaure Local Government Area over alleged same-sex acts following a complaint filed by a 22-year-old man.
The Board’s Public Relations Officer, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to Hadejia, the complainant alleged that nine individuals had engaged in same-sex acts with him on different occasions.
He further claimed that he later contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged encounters.
Hadejia said the complainant approached the Hisbah authorities seeking justice over what he described as deception and actions that had negatively affected his life.
Following the complaint, Hisbah operatives launched an investigation and began searching for the nine individuals named by the complainant.
“Our men swung into action after receiving the complaint and so far eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect,” Hadejia said.
He added that the eight arrested suspects reportedly admitted during preliminary questioning to having engaged in the alleged acts with the complainant.
According to the PRO, the Hisbah Board has gathered relevant information and evidence for presentation before the court.
Hadejia quoted the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, as urging parents to pay closer attention to their children’s upbringing and the people with whom they associate.
“Dr. Baban urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children and monitor the people they associate with,” Hadejia said.
He added that Baban also urged members of the public to fear God and remain mindful of the consequences of their actions.
Hadejia said the investigation was ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon its completion.
He also said the Deputy Commander-General expressed appreciation to the Jigawa State Government for its continued support and cooperation with the Hisbah Board in carrying out its responsibilities.
