The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 20-year-old suspects over an alleged plot to kidnap the village head of Bangare community in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, noting that the arrests followed a report by the village head, Mallam Idris, who received a threatening phone call from an unidentified person.
According to the police, the caller threatened to kidnap Idris during the phone conversation on October 24, prompting him to report the incident to the Gezawa Divisional Police Headquarters on October 26 at about 1:30 a.m.
Following the report, operatives attached to the Gezawa Division launched an investigation and carried out intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of the suspects, identified as Aliyu Naziru Garba and Bashir Alhasan.
“The Kano State Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnapping and arrested two suspects for criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation and attempted kidnapping,” the statement read.
The police said the suspects had confessed to their involvement in the alleged crime, adding that investigations were ongoing.
“Investigation is ongoing, after which they will be charged to court,” Kiyawa stated.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers of the Gezawa Division for their swift and professional response, which led to the arrests.
Bakori also reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities across the state.
He said the operation aligned with the policing vision and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasise intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, professionalism and proactive crime prevention.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or movements to the nearest police station.
Members of the public were also encouraged to contact the command through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
