Governor Siminalayi Fubara has successfully obtained a court order from the Rivers High Court in Isiokpo Division, situated in the Ikwerre Local Government Area. This order effectively bars the Rivers House of Assembly, along with its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, from proceeding with any impeachment action against him.

Governor Fubara secured this order through an ex parte application filed on Wednesday, November 1, by his legal representative, Damian Okoro (SAN). The Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, the Clerk of the House, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, have reportedly been formally served with the restraining order.

Justice Ben Whyte has issued instructions for all parties involved to maintain the current situation while awaiting a decision on the motion on notice. The hearing for the motion on notice has been rescheduled to November 14, 2023.
