Following the payment of a N7 million ransom, Mrs. Rukkayat Musa, a newlywed, and her two sisters-in-law, who were abducted by gunmen in Kwara State, have been successfully released. The trio regained their freedom in the early hours of Sunday, June 25, 2023. The kidnapping took place last Wednesday when the assailants entered the couple’s rented apartment in Ilorin and took Rukkayat, Hafsat, and Aliyah. While Rukkayat’s husband managed to escape, the gunmen held the three women captive. The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release, but negotiations brought the amount down to N7 million, which the family managed to raise. After their release, the women were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and are currently undergoing medical care. It is worth noting that the release was not facilitated by the police, as confirmed by a family member. The spokesperson for the State Police command, Okasanmi Ajayi, stated that he was not aware of the kidnapping or the subsequent release.
