In Lagos, an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has directed the detention of Mohammed Sanni, a 50-year-old security guard, in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, O.A Layinka, refrained from taking Sanni’s plea and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal guidance.

Layinka adjourned the case until March 28, awaiting the advice from the DPP.

The prosecutor, Insp Lucky Ihieme, informed the court that Sanni committed the offense on January 8 at Obidiegwu Street, Iyana School, Iba, Lagos. He elaborated that Sanni lured the victim to an unfinished building under the pretext of sharing “suya” (meat kebab) and subsequently assaulted her.

Ihieme stated that the act violated the provisions of sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015), punishable by life imprisonment according to Lagos State laws.
