Two suspects, Suleiman Habibu and Atiku Mohammed, were apprehended in Bauchi State for their involvement in phone theft. The Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, revealed in a statement on Sunday, February 18, that the suspects attempted to bribe the investigating officer with N78,000 after their arrest.
According to the statement, the suspects, residents of Jahun Area in Bauchi metropolis, were found in possession of nine mobile phones reportedly stolen from various locations in Gombe state. Despite the suspects’ attempt to compromise the investigation by offering a bribe, the investigating officer rejected the bribe.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol behind Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium and were subsequently handed over to detectives at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters for further interrogation.
Initial investigations revealed that the stolen mobile phones were taken from different areas in Gombe state. Additionally, detectives discovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and the sum of N78,000, which was offered as a bribe to influence the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has instructed a discreet investigation to locate the victims of the crime and ensure that the suspects are prosecuted accordingly.
