Self-proclaimed Prophet Leeroy Simabyu has been apprehended after an audio recording surfaced, capturing him physically attacking a female member of his congregation.

Simabyu, who leads the Springs of Living Waters Ministries in Zimbabwe, is known for his aggressive disciplinary methods. The incident occurred when Violet Ndhleleni (54) was allegedly assaulted by Simabyu for spreading false information about him. Ndhleleni recorded the altercation, and the leaked audio triggered widespread public outrage.

In the audio, Simabyu is heard boasting about his disciplinary measures against other congregants. He scolded Ndhleleni for her outspokenness and perceived disrespect before delivering multiple slaps to silence her. Furthermore, he issued threats of using his alleged supernatural powers to curse those who oppose him.

Ndhleleni, along with two other victims, Peace Tapfumaneyi and Takudzwa Dube, who serve on the prophet’s security team, filed assault charges against Simabyu.

As a result, Simabyu was arrested and appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Mildred Matuvi. He was granted bail of US$50 and is facing assault charges pending further legal proceedings. The incident has sparked widespread debate within the community, with many condemning the prophet’s actions against congregants. Social media platforms are inundated with messages expressing concern and urging relevant authorities and community leaders to address the matter promptly.
