The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has shed light on why the late comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, was unable to be flown abroad for medical treatment during his battle with illness.

In a recent interview, Emeka disclosed that hospitals in the United States and India rejected Mr. Ibu’s case due to the severity of his condition, making it medically unfeasible for him to undertake a flight for treatment. Despite his public appeal for financial assistance during his illness, Mr. Ibu underwent seven surgeries, with one of his legs eventually amputated to sustain his life. Plans were initially made to transport him abroad for advanced medical care, but logistical challenges prevented his travel.

Rollas clarified the situation, stating, “There was a time we wanted to fly Ibu abroad, but when we consulted with doctors and received his prognosis, nearly all hospitals in India and America declined, citing the impossibility of survival during air travel for someone with such a prognosis.”

John Okafor sadly passed away on March 2 at the age of 62.
