A suspected cable vandal was electrocuted while attempting to tamper with armored electrical cables at the State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He reported that the lifeless body of an unidentified male was discovered beneath a slab housing high-voltage armored cables.
“At about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the Command received a distress call from the Ministry of Works regarding an incident at the Jigawa State Secretariat New Complex in Dutse,” the statement said.
A team of officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the body of the deceased under a concrete slab covering the cables.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize the high-voltage cables. The body, which was already decomposing, has been evacuated to Dutse General Hospital for medical examination.
The Police Command emphasized the grave dangers of tampering with public infrastructure, particularly electrical installations, and condemned the criminal act in strong terms.
“The Command remains committed to safeguarding public property and ensuring the safety of lives and infrastructure across the state. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” SP Adam added.
