A Nigerian Army private, Utim Terwase, has received a ₦500,000 reward for rejecting a bribe allegedly offered by a suspected notorious kidnapper and ensuring his arrest.

The reward was presented to the soldier by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Major General Maxwell Dangana.

Terwase, who is currently serving under Operation Enduring Peace, reportedly apprehended the suspect on September 5, 2026, following an attempted escape.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly offered the soldier money in exchange for his release, but Terwase refused the bribe and ensured that he remained in custody.

Speaking during the presentation, Major General Dangana said the ₦500,000 cash reward was in recognition of the soldier’s honesty, discipline and dedication to duty.

He added that the amount was equivalent to the bribe Terwase had reportedly rejected, describing his conduct as an example of integrity and professionalism in the military.
