Suspected terrorists, believed to be gunmen, launched an attack on Shere village in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic killing of a father and his son.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 30, 2023, just a week after a previous assault by gunmen in the state claimed the lives of approximately 200 people and led to the destruction of 221 houses. Markus Nyam, the Transition Implementation Committee chairman, confirmed the recent attack on Sunday. He disclosed that the assailants invaded the village on Saturday night, fatally injuring Itse Luka Kaze and his father.

Nyam commended the vigilantes in the community for their efforts in engaging the attackers, resulting in the death of one assailant, while the others fled the scene. The Joint Security Task Force Operation Safe Haven swiftly responded to the distress call from the community, preventing further harm.

A family member of the victims, Bulus Atsen, conveyed the tragic incident, revealing that Itse Luka Kaze, a father of four, had relocated from the village to Jos city to provide his children with better educational opportunities. The attack occurred when he visited his father in Durbi, Jos East, Plateau, resulting in the untimely deaths of both father and son. Bulus emphasized the dreams and aspirations that Itse Luka Kaze had, which were abruptly cut short by the unfortunate event.
