Bandits have abducted a petrol dealer, Alhaji Abbas, and his manager, Abubakar Issa, in Gbugbu community, located in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The abduction took place on Friday, May 9, 2025, when the victims were returning home after closing their business at the Daniyan Saba Global Investment filling station in Gbugbu.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, arriving on motorcycles, launched a violent attack during which they set Alhaji Abbas’s vehicle on fire.

This incident marks a troubling recurrence for Alhaji Abbas, who had survived a previous bandit attack. His repeated targeting, now with the abduction of both him and his manager, has raised serious concerns about the increasing insecurity in the area.

“This is not the first time Alhaji Abbas has been attacked,” a source close to the situation revealed. “The fact that they targeted him again, and this time successfully abducted him and his manager, is deeply concerning.”

Residents who witnessed the aftermath of the attack said the bandits retreated into a nearby forest, which is believed to be their hideout.

The abduction has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting urgent calls for intervention from security agencies and the state government to address the escalating insecurity in Edu Local Government Area. An anonymous eyewitness expressed fears about the impact on the local farming community.

“We are entering the rainy season, and our farmers need to access their farmlands,” the eyewitness said. “If this insecurity continues, it will force them to abandon their farms, which would have devastating consequences for our community.”
