Amid growing speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is being courted by influential political figures for a potential 2027 comeback, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has firmly dismissed any intentions of returning to Aso Rock—either for herself or, by strong implication, her husband.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, Mrs. Jonathan pledged her full support for First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and announced her readiness to campaign alongside her ahead of the next presidential election.

“I’m not running. I’m not going back to the Villa. If you call me, I will not go. Let my friend be there. Let me also ‘wahala’ her the way she used to ‘wahala’ me when I was there!” she quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Her comments come as political circles, particularly in Northern Nigeria, continue to buzz with rumors of a possible alliance to bring back Jonathan in 2027. Patience Jonathan’s firm stance appears to shut down such speculation, at least from her end.

Reaffirming her commitment to rotational leadership, she said the principle of “turn-by-turn” is vital for national unity and stability—a position that strongly signals her support for the continuation of the Tinubu administration.

“I believe in one president. I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back—so that the country can move forward,” she emphasized.

Mrs. Jonathan also reflected on her long-standing relationship with Remi Tinubu, which began during their time as wives of deputy governors and later governors. She recalled the Tinubus’ support during her husband’s 2011 presidential campaign and stressed the personal bond they continue to share.

“I cannot abandon my friend, whether you like it or not,” she said.

Her remarks serve as both a public endorsement and a personal declaration of loyalty, reinforcing her decision to stay out of the political spotlight while backing the current First Lady.
