Bola Tinubu has condemned the “barbaric” killing of one of the teachers abducted from the Esiele community in Ogbomoso.

Gunmen reportedly attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School and LA Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, May 15, abducting several teachers.

In a statement issued on Monday through his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the teacher was killed while rescue efforts were ongoing.

Tinubu expressed sympathy to the government and people of Oyo State, assuring them that security agencies are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible, including collaborators within the community. He also pledged continued cooperation between the federal and state governments to secure the release of the abducted persons.

The President said he was saddened by the killing and sympathised with the families of the victims. He also commended Seyi Makinde for the steps taken so far in response to the incident.

Tinubu further praised the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara State for their swift intervention and the deployment of tactical and Intelligence Response Team operatives to assist in the rescue mission.

According to the President, the Inspector-General of Police is personally leading a technology-driven operation aimed at securing a breakthrough soon. He vowed that the kidnappers and anyone aiding them would be identified and prosecuted.

Tinubu also said the growing cases of kidnapping across the country underscore the need for state police, urging the National Assembly to expedite legislation establishing state policing structures to improve security in underserved communities.
