Benue Assembly suspends four lawmakers over alleged Speaker impeachment plot

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for three months over allegations of plotting to impeach Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh.

The suspended lawmakers include Alfred Berger, the House spokesman and representative for Makurdi North State Constituency; Cyril Ekong of Oju 2; Abu Umoru of Apa; and Shimawua Terna of Kyan State Constituency.

Following the suspensions, the Assembly announced changes in its leadership: Kennedy Angbo was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya became Deputy Chief Whip, and Elias Audu was named the new House spokesman.

During Friday’s plenary session, the Assembly also commenced the screening of five commissioner nominees, with two others, Ogwu Odeh and Imojime Tiza, scheduled for screening at a later date.
