Boko Haram insurgents have killed an Army captain and a soldier during a midnight assault on Izge community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. Confirming the incident, the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, said the community was targeted by terrorists, but local defense forces pushed back.
“It’s true that my people in Izge community came under Boko Haram attack around 1 a.m. Unfortunately, a captain and a soldier paid the supreme price,” the Emir said.
He added that the swift response by Nigerian troops, the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, and vigilantes led to the killing of three insurgents. The attackers fled, abandoning over 10 motorcycles and several weapons, and are currently being pursued by security forces.
The Emir praised the efforts of the security forces and community defenders, praying for the fallen: “May Allah (SWT) grant the departed souls Jannatul Firdaus. Our gallant men are still in the bush, sacrificing their lives to maintain peace in society.”
This latest incident comes just days after Boko Haram insurgents attacked the 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, where at least four soldiers were killed and military equipment destroyed.
