Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has proclaimed that Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti is the only African musician greater than him.
The “Last Last” crooner made the bold statement during a livestream chat with Australian streamer Playboymax, referring to Fela as “the king.” Burna Boy stated confidently:
“He [Fela Kuti] is the king. He is the only one [African artist] who is greater than me. He is the only one.”
His comment has stirred mixed reactions online — while some fans applauded his confidence and recognition of Fela’s influence on Afrobeat, others accused the self-proclaimed African Giant of masking arrogance as respect.
