Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of Real Madrid, has decided to leave the club at the end of the season, according to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, which cited anonymous sources on Monday.
The Italian manager believes his time at the club has come to an end, having become Real Madrid’s most successful manager in history. He hopes the club will respect his decision.
Ancelotti had been linked with a potential departure from the Santiago Bernabéu last year, with rumors suggesting the Brazilian Football Federation was interested in appointing him as Tite’s successor as head coach of the national team.
Regarding potential replacements, Onda Cero reports that former Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is the favorite. Alonso, who won the Champions League with Madrid in 2014, has impressed as a manager with Bayer Leverkusen, turning down an offer from Liverpool last summer to stay in Germany.
Ancelotti, 66, returned to Real Madrid in 2021 for a second spell, securing two more Champions League titles and two Spanish league titles, in addition to the one he won in 2014.
