
Police in Oyo State have arrested a 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, for allegedly fatally shooting his colleague, Femi Oyedepo, during a hunting trip in Ibadan.
According to the state police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 7, at Oretan Ijaiye forest in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area. Rasaki reportedly told officers at the Moniya Police Division that the shooting was accidental. Oyedepo was said to have collapsed and died instantly at the scene. Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, recovered the body and took Rasaki into custody. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
In a separate case, police also arrested Olatunji Segun in connection with the killing of a student from Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic, Saki. Officers responded to a fight among students at Challenge 1 area behind the institution, where a student was reportedly shot in the back and later died at a private hospital. A spent cartridge was recovered, and Segun was taken into custody as investigations continue into the motive and other possible suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, praised officers for their swift action and reassured residents that the command is committed to maintaining law and order, urging the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
