A magistrates’ court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Thursday, March 14, remanded four men in police custody for allegedly injuring two policemen while they were on duty.

The defendants—Gabriel Ezekiel, Jude Danlami, Daniel Effiong, and Jacob Yohana—are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, theft, and obstructing police officers in the course of their lawful duties.

According to the prosecuting counsel, John Okpa, the incident was reported by the complainant, Joshua Matthew, at the Byazhin Police Station on March 6. Okpa claimed that the defendants and their associates broke into Matthew’s house, stealing a Smart TV and N100,000 in cash.

When police officers arrived to make arrests, Okpa said, the defendants attacked them with cutlasses, sticks, and stones. Two police inspectors, Wabi Elisha and Ujah Sunday, were injured in the assault and are now receiving treatment at the National Hospital.

Magistrate Oyepeju Mustapha has adjourned the case until March 20 for a ruling on the defendants’ bail application.
