An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday sentenced 25-year-old Balogun Mujaid to three years in prison with hard labor for stealing an Itel A50 phone worth N98,000.

Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon also ordered Mujaid to pay N130,000 in restitution to the primary complainant.

Mujaid received additional sentences for two other offenses: three years in prison with hard labor or a N20,000 fine on Count 1, and three months in prison or a N10,000 fine on Count 2.

In a separate case, Mujaid, who pleaded guilty to all charges, was given a further sentence of one year and three months in prison without the option of a fine for two additional counts.

Chief Magistrate Babalogbon ruled that all sentences would run concurrently.

Prosecutor Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi told the court that on October 15, 2024, at around 8:30 a.m., while serving community service at the Chief Magistrate Court 6 in Ado Ekiti, Mujaid stole the Itel A50 phone belonging to Mrs. Olusola Oluwatuyi.

In another case, under Charge No: MAD/111c/25, the prosecutor stated that Mujaid stole a standing fan valued at N25,000 and a home theater worth N45,000—totaling N70,000—from Falola Sunday on January 24, 2025, at Oke-Ila in Ado Ekiti.

Inspector Adeniyi noted that the offenses were punishable under Section 302(1)(a)(b) and Section (4)(e), 181(1)(d) of the Laws of Ekiti State, Nigeria 2021.
