Cristiano Ronaldo has voiced his belief that the Ballon d’Or should be awarded to a player whose team has lifted the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain in Munich, the 40-year-old Al Nassr forward emphasized the importance of team success in individual recognition.

“In my opinion, whoever wins it should be on a team that has won trophies,” Ronaldo said. “The Ballon d’Or winner should be in a team that has won the Champions League.”

The Ballon d’Or, established by France Football in 1956, is awarded annually to the player deemed to have performed best over the previous season.
