The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a deeply personal revelation—stating that God warned him his firstborn would die if he ever left the RCCG.
He made this disclosure during the Holy Ghost Service titled “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)” at Redemption City in Ogun State.
Reflecting on the theme of spiritual consistency and divine direction, Adeboye referenced a message earlier delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, and voiced concern about a growing trend among young Christians who frequently switch churches, often introducing themselves as first-time visitors in multiple congregations.
Recounting his early years as a born-again Christian, Adeboye said there were three major ministries gaining prominence at the time. Though he was tempted to join them, he said God gave him a clear and sobering instruction:
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries making waves, and they were very good. There were temptations to move from one to another,” he recalled.
“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
At the time, RCCG was a relatively unknown ministry with its headquarters in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite his position as a university lecturer, Adeboye said God told him to submit to the authority of his spiritual father, who had no formal education.
“I was a university lecturer. My father in the Lord hadn’t attended primary or secondary school. But God said, ‘This is where you will stay.’”
He encouraged members of the congregation, especially young people, to seek divine guidance about where they belong and remain rooted in that place.
“Find out where God wants you to be, and stay there,” he advised.
Adeboye was careful to clarify that his message was not intended to claim that RCCG is superior to other Christian denominations:
“I’m not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he emphasized.
