The federation’s Disciplinary Council ruled that the 41-year-old forward deliberately violated Article 160(1) of its disciplinary regulations.
In its statement, the council said Ronaldo would serve a 30-day suspension and pay a fine of 2.5 units of account, equivalent to €255.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 30, a day before Portugal’s scheduled match against Denmark in Copenhagen.
The suspension is expected to expire before Portugal’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17. However, Ronaldo’s return to the squad will depend on the decision of head coach Jorge Jesus.
The forward’s departure from the training camp followed a reported disagreement with Jesus over his playing time during a match against Norway. Ronaldo claimed the coach had assured him that he would play for 30 minutes but ultimately left him on the bench for the entire match.
“He [Jesus] told me to be prepared because I would play 30 minutes. Everyone knows what happened next,” Ronaldo said in a statement.
“I warmed up from half-time, watched the minutes go by, and was not called upon. The coach had broken his word to me,” he added.
The Al-Nassr striker, who has reportedly scored 981 career goals, continues his pursuit of the historic 1,000-goal milestone.
