Customs Officer Killed in Bandit Attack on Checkpoint in Niger State

Armed bandits have attacked a Customs checkpoint along the Luma–Babana Road in New Bussa, Niger State, resulting in the death of a Customs officer.

The attack occurred on Saturday, October 18, 2025, after Customs personnel intercepted suspected informants and food suppliers believed to be working with bandits. The suspects were caught transporting fuel in jerry cans on motorcycles near Luma Audu Fari-Kuka village.

In response to the interception, the bandits reportedly launched an assault on the checkpoint, opening fire and killing Suleiman Mohammed Bamazi, a Customs camp assistant from New Bussa.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed that the officer’s remains were taken to the General Hospital in New Bussa for autopsy.

Security forces have launched efforts to track down the attackers, while the surrounding areas remain calm and under surveillance.
