
An 80-year-old man, Amos Onwe Ubochi, has been reportedly killed in Osege Village, Umuogodo Oshia Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Ubochi was allegedly murdered on Monday, August 17, 2026, after leading a group of elders in a prayer session for the 2027 All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates.
He was reportedly attacked while returning home from the prayer session along a village track. His body was later dragged into a thick forest and dumped near a stream.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19.
According to Ukandu, Ubochi left his residence on Monday but failed to return, while his lifeless body was discovered along a farm track the following day.
Police operatives evacuated the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead and deposited in the morgue.
The police said an investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.
The command also urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to come forward, assuring the public that every necessary step would be taken to uncover the truth behind the incident.
