The defendants, identified as Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim, were arraigned before Justice S. O. Ibrahim on a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime, conspiracy to commit fraud, impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence, according to a statement released by the commission.
One of the charges alleged that between April and June 2026, the defendants fraudulently impersonated Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, and used the assumed identity to open bank accounts with different financial institutions in Nigeria.
The charge further alleged that the defendants obtained a total of N18,264,700 from unsuspecting members of the public through the scheme. The alleged offence is said to contravene Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and is punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(iv) of the same legislation.
When the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
Following their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendants to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Justice Ibrahim subsequently ordered their remand at the correctional facility and adjourned the case until November 17, 2026, for further proceedings.
