The Kano State Multi-Agency Committee on Illicit Drugs and Related Offences has arrested a former chairman of Rogo Local Government Area over allegations of supplying and administering fentanyl injections to young people.
The committee’s chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, disclosed the arrest during a video interview with a local media outlet on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Rimingado said the former council chairman, whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested after an undercover operation confirmed allegations that he was distributing the dangerous drug.
He explained that the investigation began after the committee arrested a young man whose hand had reportedly suffered severe damage following repeated injections. The victim allegedly identified the former council chairman as the source of the drugs.
According to Rimingado, operatives followed the victim to the suspect, who allegedly collected money from him and instructed him to return later. When the victim returned, the suspect reportedly concealed the substance in an envelope and was arrested as he attempted to hand it over.
The suspect allegedly denied being directly involved and claimed the drugs were supplied from Sabon Gari Market. However, the committee said it had gathered evidence, including the substance found in his possession, the victim’s testimony and the suspect’s statement.
Authorities also shut down the suspect’s medical facility after allegedly discovering that it was operating without the required licence.
Rimingado further alleged that the suspect had practised without a valid nursing licence since 1985 and had performed caesarean sections despite allegedly lacking the necessary qualifications.
The former council chairman has reportedly been charged under Section 249 of the Kano Penal Code, which covers offences involving the administration of harmful substances.
Rimingado said the committee would present strong evidence in court, adding that the victim reportedly spent more than N2 million on the injections over two years.
He described the revelation as disturbing and said it highlighted the growing seriousness of drug abuse in the state.
