Jessica Aber, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on Saturday, March 22.

The cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined by the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia, and the Alexandria Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident.

Aber, who was 43 years old, had recently resigned from her position. She was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia by President Joe Biden in 2021 and led the office for nearly three years before stepping down in January, following President Trump’s second term inauguration.

“We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber,” said her successor, Erik Siebert, the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, in a statement on Saturday.
